              IN MEMORY OF JACK PLUNKETT

On Friday February 5, 2010, Jack passed away while taking his dog (Sabre) for a walk.  Jack was one of the original  members who started the G.L.A.D. Dart League 22 years ago and ran Saturday and Sunday dart tournaments at various bars in the valley for many years.

After retiring 3 years ago, darts had been his life, Jack had been an active player in the league all of these years. He also served on the Board of Directors as Treasurer for Five years.

While serving as Treasurer, he was able to account for every dollar that came into the league.  As a player, at League meeting’s, when Jack wanted to have the microphone to speak, everyone would say “Oh God No”. He spoke his mind and didn't care who liked it.

We will miss him for his grumpiness, fairness and also his big heart. A Man for Darts, his concerns and many efforts for the league to advance will never be forgotten.

Jack’s wishes for everyone to celebrate his life by playing Darts in his memory.  So please all come and celebrate Jack’s memory.

The 3rd Annual Have a Heart Dart Tournament will be a Jack Plunkett Memorial.  It will be held Saturday, February 13, 2010 and be hosted by the Z Girls Club.  Sign up is at noon, with the tournament starting at 1pm.  There will be a$10.00 entry Fee.

This event is being dedicated to the memory of Jack Plunkett.  Even if you don’t want to participate in the tournament we still would like the G.L.A.D. members, and all who knew Jack to come and participate in a memorial tribute. It will take place at 3:00 p.m., at the Z Girls Club.  Hope to see you there.

About the Phoenix GLBT Dart League

The Gay and Lesbian Association of Darts (G.L.A.D.) is only Phoenix area gay and lesbian dart league that gives back to the community. Founded in 1989, our joint purpose is to unite the GLBT community and raise money for charity. Today’s league (Winter/Spring 2010) has  teams with 14 area bars sponsoring teams.

We have two regular seasons each year: Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall. A team roster consists of five members, with two substitutes. Dues are $5.00 per week with 51% of all money raised going to three local charities. In our history, the dart league has raised and donated more than $500,000.00 to local charities.

Tuesday evening's play consists of five individual games of 301, two games of team 501, and two games of team Cricket. Individual awards are given to players who have thrown a "Hat Trick," a "3 in a Bed," a "White Horse," or a "6 Dart Out."

G.L.A.D. Mission Statement

GLAD is a non-profit organization of diversified men and women that was established in 1989 with the joint purpose of bringing unity to the Gay & Lesbian community and to raise money for 3 charities each season. Unity is gained by maintaining a spirit of fellowship, sportsmanship, and fun. The charities are nominated and elected by the membership. It is the hope of the GLAD organization that these contributions will enrich the lives of the recipients as well as our membership.
